Field Water Infiltration Tests

Field Water Infiltration Tests are used to verify proper performance and compliance with specifications.  They can also be used as a tool to identify water leakage and verify that repairs are successful in eliminating water infiltration.

GCI uses a variety of ASTM and AAMA test methods that were developed to properly and fairly evaluate field performance of windows, doors and curtain walls.  One method that is frequently used is ASTM E 1105 Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls, by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference.  The test involves constructing a chamber across the inside face of an assembly and vacuuming air from it while applying water across the outside face from a uniform spray grid. It simulates the effects of a wind driven rainstorm. It is a field version of the laboratory test used to certify products.

GCI has conducted thousands of field water infiltration tests to verify proper performance, identify the source of water leakage and confirm the success of attempts to repair and halt water infiltration.
